Diabetes Focus | Autumn 2022

Dear members and friends,

I hope you are keeping well and enjoyed the first two months of 2022. What a relief that things are starting to go towards a new normal after the many months of lockdowns and restrictions.

I started this year off deciding to set goals for myself, and if some of you might like to join me, look out for the DSA Membership Family newsletter which will go out shortly.

The Autumn 2022 Diabetes Focus issue has such inspiring stories. From Warren Epsey chooses determination over diagnosis and Luleka Mzuzu – experience is a great teacher to Ernest Groenewald Chosen for IDF Young Leaders in Diabetes Programme.

Be sure to check out what all the DSA branches are up to in DSA news and take note of the two Camp Diabetable camps happening.

There is much helpful information in this issue. How meal planning fits into diabetes management and The role of salt in our food and body are so helpful. After reading What is carbohydrate counting? we see that it isn’t that daunting after all. The connection between kidney disease and diabetes is such an important article. Thank you to Sister Lynette Lacock for breaking down What is the endocrine system? and making it easy to understand.

These are only a few of the great articles in this issue. Ensure you read them all as learning how to manage diabetes is vital to your health and well-being.
