Diabetes Focus | Autumn 2021

Dear members and friends,

I hope that you have all been taking care of yourselves during these challenging times with COVID.

I have just heard that the second batch of Johnson & Johnson vaccines has arrived in South Africa. As yet, there is no verified information when Phase 2 of the vaccination programme will begin. Johnson & Johnson vaccine is a single dose vaccine so there will be no need to go for a second dose. As soon as we get the dates, we will post it on our website and social media.

Diabetes SA is pushing for patients with co-morbidities, the main one being diabetes, to be prioritised for the vaccine. We will keep you informed as soon as we have more information.

In the meantime, we have some very informative articles in Diabetes Focus autumn 2021 issue, including addressing questions and info around COVID and diabetes.

What a wealth of information Diabetes Focus provides for us on so many topics relating to diabetes. I hope you will take advantage and read the articles on Reflexology, Homeopathy and Iridology, and Importance of audiology check-ups.

Treating chronic wounds is such an important article for us who are susceptible. Who new air pollution had an effect on diabetes?

Our dietitian expert, Tammy Jardine, has helpful tips and info to help in managing your diabetes. Please make use of her expertise and ask her questions.

Please do your best to manage your diabetes and stay healthy. Contact us if you are struggling and we will do our best to help.

Yours in Health
